Hello and Welcome to The Farmstead Garden

My name is Leigh-Anne, and I grow food, flowers, and I help tend to a small orchard, up on a mountain outside of Nelspruit, in the hot Lowveld of South Africa.

Although I didn’t realise it at the time, when I first put seeds in the ground at our old home in the suburbs, I was planting a passion for growing food that has only become more intense as the years have passed.

I have learned and continue to learn so much about the ways and whimsies of nature and her moods, and so I decided to create this blog where I can share the triumphs, the challenges, and the knowledge I am gaining from the lessons.

I hope you’ll find something here that feels like home and inspires you to get your hands in the soil and grow something beautiful and delicious.

And if you want to chat, I am just an email away.

A Guide to Growing Tomato Plants in Pots

July 1, 2025
Although growing tomato plants in pots can seem very much like something you’d only do when you don’t have a very big growing space, I don’t see it that way. Adding pots to an outdoor garden can really jazz things up and let you flex
